How does your cars braking system work?
It is essential to familiarise yourself with the different parts of a hydraulic brake system for the sake of your car's safety. Here is the order in which the system works.
Brake Pedal: This is what your foot pushes in order to activate your brakes.
Brake Master Cylinder: This is activated by the brake pedal.
Brake Lines: These carry brake fluid from the master cylinder to the calipers and wheel cylinders where pressure is applied to slow down or stop the car.
Rotors/Drums: Your vehicle either has rotors or drums, and they are what the brake pads rub against to create friction.
Wheel Cylinders: These are connected to the backing plate of a drum brake system. The pistons in the wheel cylinder push apart the brake shoes when fluid flows through them, to apply pressure on the brake drum which slows and stops the car.
Brake Pads: These rub against the rotors to cause friction which slows and stops the car.
Signs your Brake System needs to be inspected
